Nylon String… With Fuzz?! Cordoba Stage Meets Supro Delta King 12

Hey friends, welcome back to the party! I’m Rob, and today I’m doing a detailed review and demo of the Cordoba Stage thin-line nylon string electric guitar—a setup I’m calling the “Nylon String… With Fuzz?!” as it meets the Supro Delta King 12.

The Cordoba Stage Guitar

  • This is a thin-line nylon string electric guitar with two pickups. The model I have is in the beautiful Black Burst finish, and I absolutely love the look of it.
  • The body is constructed from solid mahogany, carved out to be hollow, topped with spruce and a flamed maple veneer. This gives it a body shape that’s like a 339, which contributes to its resonant, hollow-body sound.
  • It features 22 nickel silver frets, a bone nut and a compensated saddle, and great 14:1 gear ratio tuners. Keep in mind, this is an instrument designed for amplification, so acoustically, it’s not a loud guitar.

The Fishman Stage System & Pro Tip

  • The heart of the guitar’s sound is the Fishman Stage system, controlled by three knobs: Volume, EQ, and Body Blend.
  • The EQ control is special because it’s a subtractive EQ. Turning it up scoops out the mids, which I think is great because it creates a “smiley face EQ” and gives a nice space for vocals to sit in the mix.
  • The Body Blend control mixes in the signal from the internal microphone with the piezo pickup (the piezo is always part of the signal).
  • My Pro Tip: I share a secret on how to adjust the microphone’s gain! On the back of the guitar, there is a small panel containing a blue potentiometer. I roll this all the way up to 10 so the body blend mic can really overpower the piezo signal, giving me much more control and access to all those cool percussive body taps.

Sound Demos

  • I run the guitar through my Supro Delta King 12 amp, using the line out to capture the preamp signal for the recording.
  • I demonstrate how the EQ control warms up the tone and how the Body Blend dramatically changes the sound, especially once you’ve boosted the mic gain.
  • I show off a range of tones, including a crunchy lead tone I call “Andalusian metal”, clean bluesy pieces, and full-on distorted sounds.

My Final Thoughts

  • I think this is an incredibly versatile guitar that can fill so many different roles, providing “more sounds than a bag full of cats”.
  • The price point is excellent—they typically run around $800.
  • I also quickly review the excellent Cordoba gig case that’s included with the guitar, especially pointing out the comfortable, sturdy handle.
  • Finally, for sticking around, I share a link to my website, undergroundguitarparty.com, where you can download a free blues lesson PDF for my students.
